Undoubtedly, Windows XP continues to get a consistent amount of love from its very loyal users, after all, the OS continues to run on over 65.49% of computers worldwide. Citing findings from Market research firm Techaisle, Microsoft is warning that ignoring Windows 7 and failing to upgrade computers while choosing to ride Windows XP for all it’s got on older hardware comes with inherent financial costs. Techaisle indicates that the maintenance costs of older PCs running XP can be as much as 1.5 times higher than for newer Windows 7-based machines.
Windows 7: 300 Million Sold Copies in 2010
Microsoft has officially announced the sales target for the latest version of the Windows client, and, while extremely high, it is in no way beyond the company’s reach. Speaking at the CeBIT Global Conference, in Hanover, Germany on March 4, 2010, Microsoft Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner revealed that the software giant aimed to sell in excess of 300 million copies of Windows 7 by the end of 2010.

In the first half of this month, the Redmond company announced theWindows Activation Technologies Update for Windows 7, noting that it would be released on the Windows genuine website on February 16th, and on the Microsoft Download Center the next day. Earlier this week, namely on February 23rd, the update was scheduled to go live on Windows Update.
