Microsoft did confirm two features which will be introduced by Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: Dynamic Memory and RemoteFX, both impacting the company’s desktop virtualization stack.
Just as it was the case for the two service packs for Windows Vista, SP1 for Windows 7 will be just a minor upgrade. Just a few days short of the first five months since it launched its latest Windows client, Microsoft is finally ready to start talking Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

We have already blogged about how you can troubleshoot Windows 7 issues natively with the in-built Windows 7 Troubleshooters. In addition to built-in troubleshooting packs, Windows 7 can download new packs as new issues are identified through the Windows Online Troubleshooting Service (WOTS).
If you’re still running XP after all these years, odds are you’ve settled in nicely and don’t plan to leave until you have no choice. Well, that might be happening sooner than you expected. Microsoft announced today that they were working on Internet Explorer 9, and that it would not support Windows XP but Windows 7 and Vista.
On the second day at MIX10, Microsoft has made available for download the first release of Internet Explorer 9. The Internet Explorer 9 Platform Preview is currently up for grabs from Microsoft.

The wait is almost over for new demos of Internet Explorer 9. Come next week and MIX10, Microsoft will showcase the evolution of IE9 since the first demonstration of the browser at PDC 2009 last year. The Redmond company has already published details on a number of IE9-focused sessions scheduled for the coming week. The official MIX10 website was updated to detail the new demos planned for the next iteration of Internet Explorer.
For some, Windows 7 might just be the fastest selling operating system in history, but, for others, the product could prove a veritable life saver. The successor of Windows Vista is at the core of a new initiative aimed at homebound seniors, and designed to boost wellness by simply helping them reduce social isolation. Virtual Senior Center is only a demonstration project at this point in time, but there has to be little doubt that a product based on this concept will deliver quality-of-life benefits to seniors who are prisoners of their homes because of age-related health problems.
What a difference an OS makes. Whereas those in charge of IT took a very cautious approach to Vista, Windows 7 is enjoying a much warmer reception and more rapid adoption rate. “We have 50 percent of our users, that’s 2,500 machines, deployed on Win7 in 2010,” said Jim Thomas, CIO at Pella. Microsoft might not breathe a single word on the next iteration of the Windows client and server platforms for the general public, but the company’s silence should not be mistaken for inactivity. While the software giant is keeping down to a minimum leaks on the development of Windows 8 client and Windows 8 Server, the company is indeed hard at work on the successors of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. And while the company is keeping mum on Windows 8, it is already developing technical documentation for the US Department of Justice.
